A community organisation which helps ex-offenders recover from addictions and mental health issues has received funding from Cheshire’s police and crime commissioner David Keane.

Supporting Factors CIC has been successful in its application to PCC David Keane’s Safer Communities express grants fund which takes money from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act and reinvests it into community safety.

The £980 grant will be used to purchase tablets and pay for online video software so support sessions can be delivered online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The sessions will focus on mental health first aid, resilience building and offering ex-offenders coping strategies so they can integrate back into society and are less likely to reoffend.

They will be delivered online to ex-offenders in Warrington who are struggling to access mental health services.

PCC David Keane said: “I’m pleased to provide funding to Supporting Factors CIC to help them adapt their service delivery during the pandemic.

“Not only will these support sessions support ex-offenders and help them recover and rebuild their lives, they will also benefit the local community in keeping the individuals engaged in services and less likely to reoffend.”
