Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer, visited Warrington Youth Zone on Friday 20 May to hear about their latest partnership with Think Fast Academy and how the organisations work with young people to stop them falling into a life of crime.
The Youth Zone is a brand-new facility for Warrington’s young people, aged 7-19 and up to 25 for those with additional needs. It is a purpose-built facility which provides a range of activities for their members including sports, arts and employability workshops.
On a tour of the Youth Zone led by Warrington Youth Club Chief Executive, Dave McNicholl, The Commissioner met with Martin Murray, a retired professional boxer who has set up the Think Fast Academy to engage with local young people. Its activities will be based at Warrington Youth Zone and will include educational sessions on subjects such as knife crime, domestic abuse and drug and alcohol awareness.
John Dwyer, Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire said:
“The efforts of Warrington Youth Zone and Think Fast Academy should be commended. Their hard work to provide the young people of Warrington with a safe space to learn and have fun will be crucial in preventing crime within the area.
In my Police and Crime Plan, I highlight the importance of tackling anti-social behaviour and it is great to hear about the programmes that both Martin and Dave have in place to keep our communities safe and supported.”
The Think Fast Academy originally launched in St Helens in November 2021 and is due to open at Warrington Youth Zone in September 2022, where the focus will be on providing a safe and educational space for the young people of Warrington.
Martin Murray, Director of Think Fast Academy said:
“We're really excited to be launching our Think F.A.S.T Academy from the Youth Zone and looking forward to working with Dave and his team to help and support the young people of Warrington.
Our aim is to educate young people by giving them the tools to make positive life choices, which will prevent them from going down a negative pathway in life.
The support of the Police and Crime Commissioner will be influential in making this a success and reducing anti-social behaviour in the area.
The facilities at the Youth Zone are amazing and working together will ensure that the young people of Warrington have the opportunity to create better futures for themselves.”
