Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer, sponsored and attended Warrington Mela festival alongside representatives from Warrington Local Policing Unit and Cheshire Constabulary’s Police Recruitment team.
Warrington Mela is organised by WECA (Warrington Ethnic Communities Association) to encourage community cohesion and supported integration for Warrington’s black, minority and ethnic communities.
The Commissioner asked visitors to fill out his Hate Crime survey which aims to understand individual’s knowledge and experience of hate crime in order to improve the policing response to this kind of incident. The stall also provided visitors with crime preventative and personal safety items such as security bells, tyre tread-depth measurers and contactless card protectors.
Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer, said:
“It has been an honour to both sponsor and attend Warrington Mela Festival this year.
“It has been great to see Cheshire’s diverse communities thriving in Warrington and it is important to me that we celebrate this diversity across the county which is reflected in my Police and Crime Plan.”
The Commissioner was joined by representatives from Warrington Local Policing Unit, including officers, Police Community Support Officers (PCSO’s) and members of the Special Constabulary. The team were very popular with the visitors by providing fingerprint scans for the children and sharing information about their role in keeping Cheshire safe.
Police Recruitment also attended the event to encourage and educate visitors about potential careers within Cheshire Constabulary.
John Dwyer added:
“The interest in my Hate Crime Survey has been fantastic and I am grateful to everyone who took the time to visit my stall and share their experiences. People’s feedback truly contributes to making our county an even safer place for everyone.
“I would also like to extend my thanks to the officers and staff from the Constabulary for their hard work and contribution in making Warrington Mela such a success.”
Have your say in the Hate Crime survey.
