The Safer Communities Fund has been established to encourage local residents and our communities to get involved in the prevention and reduction of crime and to allow community groups to bid for monies to help create safer communities across Cheshire.

In order to facilitate a reasonable distribution of the Fund, applications will continue to be limited to a maximum of £5,000. There is no minimum level of funding.

Applications must support crime prevention or reduction or the objectives within the Police and Crime Plan, must be located within Cheshire and must focus on local needs. This could include, but is not limited to, projects that will:

  • Support victims
  • Protect vulnerable people
  • Tackle anti-social behaviour and drugs
  • Improve road safety
  • Promote a safe night time economy

How to apply

Applications for 2020-2021 will open in early summer 2020.

Firstly, you need to check your project is eligible for funding. You should read the grant making principles document, criteria and refer to FAQs if unsure.

Once you have checked your eligibility, you need to ensure your application is supported by your local policing unit by connecting with an officer and/or PCSO and ensure the application addresses one or more of the local policing priorities.

In order to apply, all organisations must have discussed the project with the Community Development and Policy Officer, the applicant will then be issued with a unique application number and form. Please email or call 01606 364000.


If you will be working with children or vulnerable adults you will be required to confirm you have policies and procedures relating to Safeguarding Children and/or Vulnerable Adults that are in accordance with national guidelines and any guidance issued by the relevant Local Safeguarding Adults Board and/or Local Safeguarding Children Board.
