Communities leading the way - SWAP Fund returns

Communities empowered to make a difference and thrive

I’ve always believed that the most powerful solutions to community safety come from communities themselves. The people who live, work, and raise families in our towns and villages know better than anyone what needs to change – and how to make it happen.

That’s why I’m proud to announce the return of the SWAP Fund for its second year. With £100,000 available, this fund is open to community groups, not-for-profit organisations and local stakeholders. This year we’re opening the fund further and encouraging schools to apply for funding to deliver non-statutory, curriculum-based projects that promote safety and wellbeing.

SWAP stands for Safety, Working Together, Action and Prevention. But it’s more than just an acronym – it’s a mindset. It’s about empowering people to take action on the issues that matter most to them. Whether it’s tackling anti-social behaviour, supporting victims of crime or creating safe spaces for young people, SWAP is designed to help communities help themselves.

Last year, I invested £200,000 into 58 projects across Cheshire. The impact has been nothing short of inspiring. From theatre performances teaching children about online safety, to youth engagement activities, and support services for vulnerable residents, these initiatives have had a far lasting reach.

What these projects have shown is that when communities pull together, real change happens. They haven’t just improved safety, they’ve built trust, strengthened relationships, and given people the tools to make lasting improvements in their neighbourhoods.

This year, I want to go even further. I want to hear from groups with bold ideas, creative approaches, and a genuine passion for making a difference. If you’re part of a school, charity, community group or local partnership with a project that could improve safety or wellbeing in your area, I encourage you to apply.

The application window is now open, and all the details are available on my website. It’s a straightforward process but if you need any help please don’t hesitate to get in touch. My office is here to support you every step of the way.

Together, we can continue building communities that don’t just survive but thrive. The SWAP Fund is your opportunity to turn ideas into action, and I can’t wait to see what this next round of funding will achieve.
