Background
The young person has been processing a number of things over a period of time. This has included a sexual assault, mental health concerns, and gender identity. Due to this, they have become volatile at home, resulting in aggression towards her parents.
The young person has sent images to people they have met online, which their parents have acted upon – deleting the apps, images and people the young person has met – and they now regularly monitor the young person’s phone, and limits what they have access to.
What happened
Queensberry AP ran several sessions with the young person, making them aware of the risks involved with their current behaviour. The sessions also helped the young person increase their awareness of child criminal exploitation (CCE), ensuring the young person understood terms like ‘manipulate’, ‘force’ and ‘coerce’.
More real-life stories were explored with the young person and Queensberry AP working through questions to help the young person better understand the impact of their behaviour on themselves and their family.
Impact
The young person really benefitted from the support provided by Queensberry AP, once the initial sessions had concluded, further sessions were scheduled to help improve the young person’s self esteem and wellbeing.
The young person now shares their phone with their parents, building trust and sharing the monitoring responsibility.
Feedback
The young person said:
“I have enjoyed learning about the dangers of being online and exploitation. I have enjoyed having someone to talk to that understands.”
