Victim grants

The Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is responsible for commissioning local support services for victims and survivors of crime. Funding is provided by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ).

The Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) receives an annual grant from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to fund support services for victims of crime across Cheshire.

What the funding supports

Each year, the grant is used to commission a range of support services – all aimed at helping victims cope, recover and rebuild.

Victim services 2024-25

Funded activities Amount
Initial referral and needs assessment services for victims of crime £600,000
Restorative justice services for victims of crime £176,064
Services for victims of sexual violence (adults and children) £115,000
Services for victims of domestic violence £204,000
Other services for victims of crime (not specified above) £85,250.22
Associated costs of commissioning £57,038
Total £1,237,352.22

Why this matters

  • The grants ensure that victims and survivors of crime in Cheshire have access to timely support. Whether for emotional, practical or legal needs.
  • By funding a range of services, from initial referral and assessment to specialised support (for sexual or domestic abuse for example), the PCC aims to help all victims, regardless of when or whether they report the crime.
  • The funding underpins a network of support that includes the flagship service Cheshire CARES and other specialist services, ensuring a consistent and comprehensive offer for victims across the county

How services are commissioned

The PCC uses the MoJ grant to commission services tailored to local needs. A clear evidence-based approach is taken. Supporting services that work and reviewing performance to ensure support remains effective.

When needs change, services can be recommissioned or adapted, working closely with partner organisations to deliver the right support at the right time.
